Scottish EDGE awards - The latest round of Scottish EDGE funding has awarded 15 Scottish companies with a share of £660k, and support for their businesses.

All 30 finalists had to demonstrate how they would grow their company with up to £50k in the ‘Dragon’s Den’ style competition. Seven of them were awarded the full £50k on offer.

YCF awards - At the dinner following the YCF conference in Stirling last month sponsored by Shepherd+ Wedderburn, YCF awards were presented to four young companies which had impressed a jury consisting of YCF’s advisory panel. The awards were presented by Brendan Richardson, of Vision Capital in California, who also gave an after-dinner talk encouraging young Scottish companies to aspire to the world-leading roles which their technology and management deserve. Fathom Systems
The company, which started in 2005, designs and produces specialist underwater technology equipment for the off-shore oil and gas industry.

BrewDog Brewery
BrewDog has been running for just over a year in Scotland and insist on using fresh ingredients for their products. The company was founded by two young entrepreneurs James Watt, 26, and Martin Dickie, 25. The pair have taken the brewing world by storm and secured deals with retailers such as Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Oddbins.
